Geometry May 9th

I haven't posted on here for a while, because I didn't feel like people were using the information, and I haven't had time. I took a picture of the board with the notes on it today, as well as a picture of the homework, so I thought I'd attach those just in case. We are working on surface area of prisms, specifically rectangular and triangular.
The next picture is the homework due Thursday:

Geometry April 16th - 20th

We had state testing this week, so it was pretty uneventful.
Monday through Wednesday most students were taking their state test.
Thursday (today) we looked at areas of sectors of circles. To find the area of a sector we use a proportion and cross multiply to solve.
HW: Pg. 784 #5-7, 18-23
Friday we will be looking at the areas of trapezoids, rhombi, and kites. I'm not sure if I will get notes on here, but I will attach the worksheet that will be homework Friday night.

Geometry Honors April 16 - 20th

I haven't had time to get info on here this week.
Monday we did volume & surface area of pyramids. We just had 2 problems on the board for homework.
Tuesday we talked about volume of prisms. I'll attach the problems we worked on dealing with chlorinating a swimming pool and resurfacing a track.
Wednesday we went over the pool problem and looked more at volume of prisms.
HW was Pg. 850 #1,2, 10-12, 16-18
Thursday we spent extra time calculating our warm-up problem which was the square footage of a picket fence. We didn't have time to get to the area of regular polygons as planned, we'll do that tomorrow. The second attached sheet will be the homework for Friday.

Thursday, April 12, 2012

Geometry April 12th

We went over last nights 2 problem homework and worked on similar triangles today. Each time we set them up into 2 equal fractions, and then cross multiply and divide.

Geometry Honors April 12th

We started going over volume and surface area today. We focused on cones, we'll probably add pyramids tomorrow. The homework is attached.

Geometry April 11th, State Test Review

We reviewed systems of equations today. Since it's all review "stuff" I won't be putting notes on here this week. Tonight we had a whopping 2 problems of homework.

Tuesday, April 10, 2012

Geometry Honors April 10th

We reviewed in class today for a test over circles on Wednesday. Students only homework was to prepare a note card of info to be used on the test. I am attaching some review problems for extra practice. If you can find a way to print them, get them done and bring them to class on Wednesday, I'll give you some extra credit. I put the answers on there so you could check your work.
The only way I could get it on here from my test program was to have them in kind of screwy order, but it's practice problems either way.

Remember for your test:
LABEL with cm, m, mi, in, whenever possible!!

HW: Notecard DUN!

Monday, April 9, 2012

Geometry Honors April 9th

We did some constructions with a compass and ruler today. We were circumscribing circles around triangles. (Say that ten times fast!) Some kids loved it, some definitely did not. The more accurate you were in your constructions, the better the outcome. Most everyone completed it in class, so you probably don't have any homework!
Tomorrow we will be reviewing for a quiz that we will take on Wednesday. A notecard of notes is allowed, and will be worth points on the quiz. I will try to attach some of the example problems tomorrow afternoon for review for a couple of fighting sisters in Washington DC. :)

Geometry April 9th

I handed back a quiz today that was just plain ugly. I obviously did not do a very effective job of explaining that stuff. We went over it in class, and did a make-up quiz at the end of the period. Homework was to correct the old quiz, or to do the problems if you were absent. We will be reviewing for state testing this week, so the worksheets we'll be using aren't really "attachable." Due today was one about parallel lines and transversals.

Friday, April 6, 2012

Geometry April 5th & 6th

Thursday we took a quiz in class. Some seemed to think it went well, others not so much.

Friday: We are starting to review some of the things we have covered this year because we'll be taking the state test April 16th through the 20th. We started with parallel lines and transversals today. We had a worksheet for homework that I don't have saved on the computer, so it's not attached, you'll have to get that from me if you were gone.
Have a Happy Easter!!!!

Geometry April 6th, Equations of Circles

We introduced a basic equation of a circle today. Yesterday we had a number of people absent, so we had a work day.
HW: Pg. 747 #11-18, 21-26

Wednesday, April 4, 2012

Geometry April 4th

We worked on inscribed circles today. There will be a quiz tomorrow over our circle stuff. Notes are attached.
HW: Pg. 713-714 #11-20

Geometry Honors April 4th

We learned about tangents to circles today. Those notes are attached, as well as Tuesday's notes for inscribed angles.

Tuesday, April 3, 2012

April 3rd Geometry Honors Inscribed Angles

I didn't have a whole lot of time to get notes on here today, but everyone in class seemed to be pretty comfortable with it. If you're stuck, come talk to me!
HW: Pg. 714 #17-20, 23-30

April 3rd Geometry - Arc Length

We did some arc length today in class. Arc length and arc measure are 2 different things. Measure should be in degrees, and length will be in units such as inches, feet, miles, etc.
HW: Pg. 697 #36-41, 45-47

Tuesday, March 20, 2012

Algebra 2 - March 19, 20

March 19 (Monday) we spent more time on chapter 6, section 3. It deals with the degree of a function, the leading coefficient, and the end behavior of a function. Notes on all that stuff should be under last week's algebra 2 posts. Last Monday (March 12th) should have the notes.
HW: 6.3 Workshet

March 20th (Tuesday) we went over the worksheet from Monday, and started reviewing other chapter 6 concepts. We'll take a test over 6.1, 6.2 & 6.3 on Thursday. Fun stuff!!
HW: NONE!

Geometry Honors, March 20 - Arc Length

We briefly covered arc length today. I didn't get any notes to post, but kids thought it was pretty easy.
HW: Pg. 697 #36-41

Geometry March 20 - Central Angles

Today was pretty easy. Our objective was to learn a few more terms, and started talking about the measure of arcs and central angles.
HW: Pg. 696 #1-9, 12-23

Monday, March 19, 2012

Monday, March 12, 2012

Algebra 2 March 12th - 14th

Monday: After the quiz on Friday, there was a worksheet (attached to Friday's post) to start section 6.3, which is polynomial functions. Most students were a little confused by it, so we'll probably spend the class period today talking about it, and clarifying. The first attached sheet will be the answers for the notes. We also started talking about end behavior. I thought we would start this on Tuesday, but we had time Monday to do it. HW: Pg. 352 #35-40, 47-50

Tuesday: Snow Day!

Wednesday: We will be evaluating functions using variables. Example 4 on pg. 349 is a good one to check out and follow along. I'll try to attach some notes for that later this week.
HW: Pg. 352 #25-34

Geometry & Geometry Honors Mar. 12 - 14th

Monday (March 12th): Our objective in both classes today was to work on dilations.

Geometry HW: Pg. 663 #5-8, 21, 26

Tuesday (March 13th): Both classes will be reviewing for a chapter 9 test to be taken on Wednesday. Notes are attached that may help to prepare for that test. We will use the whiteboards in class, the only homework will be to prepare notes.

Wednesday (March 14th): Both classes will be taking the chapter 9 test.
Hope to see you at conferences on Thursday, we'll be here from 11-4, & 5-7!!

Friday, March 9, 2012

Algebra 2 March 8th & 9th

March 8th: More synthetic division practice
HW: 6.2 Worksheet, pick any 5 problems
March 9th: Synthetic division quiz
HW: Worksheet to start 6.3, which is more work with polynomials.
Sheet is attached

Geometry March 8th & 9th

March 8th: Today was a work day to spend more time on rotations.
HW: 9.3 Worksheet (2 sides)
March 9th: We are taking a quiz today over reflections, translation, and rotations. No Homework

Geometry Honors Rotations

March 8th & 9th:
March 8th we worked in pairs today on reflections and translations. We had a big graph on the floor for students to "plot themselves" and their partner had to be the reflection or the translation. No homework
March 9th: Our objective today was to introduce rotations and their "rules." We focused on 90, 180, and 270 degree rotations.
HW: Pg. 636 #14-19

Wednesday, March 7, 2012

Algebra 2 March 7th

The objective today was to practice synthetic division. I attached some notes to try to help out. We'll work on it some more tomorrow, and have a quiz on Friday.
HW: Pg. 345 #26-30, 32, 33, 39-41

Geometry March 7th: Rotations

Our objective today was to be able to rotate a figure around the origin. We are mainly focusing on 90, 180, and 270 degree rotations. All rotations and "rules" that go with them are counter-clockwise.
I have the 2 pages of notes in the wrong order, and I'm not comfortable enough with technology to fix it. Sorry! I also tried to title it wrong, but it should be rotations, not reflections. :)
HW: Pg. 635 #3, 14-19

Geometry Honors March 7th: Translations

Our objective today was to review the reflections that were assigned Friday and Tuesday, and to add translations. A translation is taking the figure and sliding it.
HW: Pg. 627 #14-19

Tuesday, March 6, 2012

Algebra 2 March 5th & 6th

Monday we spent the day getting organized and caught up. There are several students who were gone last Friday so we used class time to take quizzes, do missing homework, figure stuff out, that kind of thing. No homework Monday night.
Tuesday our objective was to introduce synthetic division. It's a much easier process than long division of polynomials. I didn't have a chance to come up with notes for today, but I'll get some on here tomorrow. We just did a few simple problems today, and assigned 2 problems for homework. We'll be working more on this tomorrow and adding to the assignment.
HW: Pg. 345 #21, & 22

Geometry March 5th and 6th

Monday we corrected quizzes, those scores are in the computer grade book. We also took some time in class to go over the challenge problems that were assigned last Friday. This week's homework will be recorded on a pink sheet. There wasn't any homework on Monday
Tuesday (today) was a 2 hour delay, so we only had 36 minute class periods. I handed back quizzes, and we went and checked out the art show in the library, and put in our votes. There are some pretty impressive works of art in there!

Geometry Honors March 5 & 6

Monday we took a day to catch up and get organized. Some students didn't see the assignment that was on the board on Friday, so you had until Tuesday to get Pg. 619 #7,8,27,28 done. We also spent time on Monday going over the chapter 8 test that you took Friday. I will hopefully have those graded by Wednesday or Thursday.
Tuesday (today) we talked about the Pg. 619 assignment and added a few more problems. We are moving into transformations, moving and changing figures and graphs. We started with reflections. We didn't have much for notes today, we just did some example problems. The only sort of confusing reflection is reflecting over the y=x line. For that one, take the coordinates of the point (x,y) and they trade places. For example, the point (2, -3) would reflect to (-3, 2).
HW: Pg. 619 #18-23

Friday, March 2, 2012

Algebra 2 March 1st & 2nd

We worked more on dividing polynomials on Thursday. I tried to create some notes that would hopefully help. They're attached. It basically follows the rules of long division, but gets confusing with letters and exponents.
Friday we're taking a quiz over chapter 6, sections 1 & 2

Geometry March 1st & 2nd

The objective today Thursday was to practice reflections and translations using a grid on the floor of the classroom. Students had a partner, and they had to practice plotting a point on the graph and identify the coordinates. Their partner then had to place themselves on the graph using the given reflection or translation.
Some classes were given a worksheet as homework, but there wasn't any time to do it in class.
Friday in class we have a quiz over reflections and translations. When the quiz is done, they will start working on a set of "challenge problems." Ideally, students will have them done on Monday, but they'll be tough, so I expect to have some questions to answer on Monday.
HW: Challenge Problems (attached)

Geometry Honors March 1st & 2nd

I ran out of time to get info posted on here yesterday. We are taking a test today in class over all the chapter 8 material we have covered this semester. Attached is a summary of what will be on the test.
HW for Thursday night: Prepare a note card to use on the test

Geometry February 28

The objective today was to be able to reflect figures over horizontal and vertical lines.
HW: Pg. 620 #18-24

Geometry Honors February 28th

We looked at the law of cosines today. It looks harder than it is. When we have non-right triangles we can use the law of sines and law of cosines to find unknown values.
We use the law of sines when we have two angles in a triangle and a side
We use the law of cosines when we have 2 sides given and the angle in between, or when we have all three side lengths and we're trying to find an angle measure. Fun stuff!
HW: Pg. 586 #5-7, 22, 23

Algebra 2 February 27th

We went over the challenge problems today in class, which took the whole period.
HW: Define monomial & polynomial

Monday, February 27, 2012

Geometry February 27th

We are moving into chapter 9 today, which is transformations. We looked today at some of the reflections and remembering how to plot coordinates.
HW: Pg. 619 #7-9, 25-29

Geometry Honors Feb. 27th

Objective today was to introduce the law of sines. We can use the law of sines to solve for missing sides and angles in non-right triangles.
HW: Pg. 586 #1,2,8,12-15

Thursday, February 23, 2012

Algebra 2 February 22nd through 24th

February 22nd
We started a test Wednesday. We spent some time reviewing the material first and after mass amounts of teenage whining, I agreed to let them have 2 days to take the test.
February 23rd
We'll finish the test today after Miss Clark, the student teacher, shows students how to program their calculators to use the quadratic formula.
HW Pg. 297 #9, 14-17, 34
February 24th
Friday will be a work day to finish pg. 297, and to work on some "challenge problems." The challenge problems are attached.

Geometry February 23rd & 24th

We had a worksheet in class today. The objective was to realize that we have three methods to use solve for missing values in right triangles, so we were working on all three. The worksheet is attached, and is due tomorrow (Friday).
Friday we will be taking a quiz in class

Geometry Honors Feb. 23rd & 24th

We have a lot of students scrambling to get their work done, and a few students that will be gone Friday for wrestling, or for forestry club competitions. So... for today and tomorrow, students have homework to finish/catch up on, and have a quiz to take. I gave them the option of choosing which day to take the quiz, and which day to work. About half the class finished their quizzes today, the other half will be tomorrow
Assignment due Monday: Pg. 986 Section 8-4, #1-9

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

Friday, February 17, 2012

Algebra 2 February 15th & 16th

Thursday we worked on the last section of chapter 5. Our objective is to put a quadratic equation into vertex form. This can make graphing a little easier. We use the completing the square method. The computers were having issues on Thursday, so I didn't have a chance to get notes put on here.
Thurs HW: Pg. 308 #4-12
Friday we worked some more on this concept. We practiced some of the homework problems in class, and assigned a few more. We will be taking a test over chapter 5 next Thursday or Friday.
Fri HW: Pg. 308 #13-19 (not sure of that last number, but the rest of that section is the assignment)

Geometry & Geometry Honors Feb. 15th & 16th

The computers weren't working Thursday, so I don't have any notes to post. Thursday we pretty much reviewed some of our trigonometry stuff. Geometry honors had an assignment out of the book, and the geometry classes had a worksheet to be working on. Both classes took quizzes on Thursday, and have a weekend without homework!! Whee!!
Thurs HW Geometry Honors: Pg. 568 #57, 59, 66, & 69

Our goal today is to review solving polynomials using the quadratic formula.
HW: Pg. 297 #1-6

Geometry February 13th

We are just beginning to work with trigonometry ratios. We will get into more application, but for now, the goal is that students can identify which side of the right triangle is the hypotenuse, the opposite side, and the adjacent side. They can then set up the appropriate ratio.

HW: Pg. 567 #1-6

Geometry Honors February 13th

Our goal today was to work more with trigonometric ratios. We are using the ratios to be able to find missing values in right triangles.

HW: Pg. 568 #22-32

Algebra 2 February 6th

We basically didn't do anything new today. We are still working on completing the square. It's pretty hard stuff, but it's getting easier. There will be a quiz on Thursday.
6th period we added 2 problems to the assignment from Friday. #38, and #43 (I think)
7th period we added one more step to the completing the square process. They had HW Pg. 288 #34, 37, 42, 44, 49. They had to pick 2 of those problems to do. Seems like not much homework, but they can be long problems.

Geometry February 6th

The objective today was to work more on 30-60-90 triangles. Hopefully we can get better at these, rather than having to use the Pythagorean Theorem every time. We will be taking a quiz over special triangles on Thursday.
HW: Pg. 557 #23-35, and 32

Geometry Honors February 6th

Today was review over the same stuff, so we didn't have any new notes. We used class time to review some of the homework from Friday, and worked in groups on a worksheet in class. There will be a quiz tomorrow!!

Geometry Honors Feb. 3rd

Another special right triangle today. 30-60-90.
HW: Pg. 557 #4-7, 18-23

Geometry February 3rd

Notes today are a little messy, I had some technological difficulties. Basically, we are doing another special triangle, a 30-60-90 triangle. The side across from the 30 degree angle is the "short leg." The side across from the 60 degree angle is the "long leg" and the hypotenuse you should already know. We will work some more with these on Monday.
HW: Pg. 557 #5, 18-22, & 30

Monday, January 30, 2012

I am hoping to be able to upload notes from class each day to this blog. I would like to be able to separate them by class using the tabs up above. I haven't figured that out just yet, so... until I become a genius blogger, I will post them here by class with a date to categorize each one.
